Everything you Need to Know About Juneteenth

What is Juneteenth?

Juneteenth, also known as Juneteenth Independence Day or Freedom Day, is an annual holiday celebrated on June 19th in the United States. It commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans.

On June 19, 1865, Union General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced General Order No. 3, which proclaimed the freedom of all slaves in Texas. This announcement came more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed by President Abraham Lincoln in 1863. The delay in delivering the news to Texas was primarily due to the resistance of slave owners and the limited presence of Union troops in the state.

Juneteenth holds historical significance as a symbol of the end of slavery in the United States. It represents the long-awaited freedom and serves as a reminder of the struggles and resilience of African Americans throughout history. It is a day to celebrate the achievements, contributions, and cultural heritage of the Black community, while also reflecting on the ongoing fight for equality and justice.

Our Juneteenth Message to You

Today, we remember the strength and courage of our ancestors who fought tirelessly for their liberation. We reflect on their unwavering determination, knowing that their struggle paved the way for the freedoms we enjoy today.

Juneteenth is a reminder that progress is possible, even in the face of adversity. It serves as a beacon of hope, inspiring us to confront the challenges of our time with conviction and unity. It is a call to dismantle the barriers that still divide us and to build a more equitable and inclusive society for all.

On this day, let us take a moment to acknowledge the contributions and achievements of the Black community. Let us celebrate the richness of its culture, the brilliance of its minds, and the resilience of its spirit. Together, we can amplify their voices, uplift their stories, and work towards a future where every person is seen, heard, and valued.

Juneteenth is not just a celebration for one community; it is a celebration for all who believe in justice and equality. It is a day to stand together, hand in hand, as we strive to create a world free from discrimination, prejudice, and systemic racism.

As we commemorate Juneteenth, let us commit ourselves to continue the journey towards freedom and equality. Let us educate ourselves, listen to one another's experiences, and actively challenge the injustices that persist. By doing so, we can forge a path towards a brighter and more inclusive future for generations to come.
